The Indiana Division of the United States Canoe Association would like
to thank The Elkhart Truth newspaper and the Collins
family for organizing the 2000 Great Canoe Race. This years
race saw not only a strong Elkhart area turn out, but paddlers from all over
the state of Indiana were also present.
The temperature hovered around 60 degrees and it was a slightly overcast
day. A gentle mist of rain started us off the starting line, but less
than 1/2 hour into the race, all rain subsided and it was a wonderful trip.
The water level was perfect, high enough to take out the shallow spots,
but not too high to cause control problems.
