The Indiana Division of the United States Canoe Association
held the 42nd Annual Sugar Creek Canoe and Kayak Races, on Saturday, April
24, 2004. Special thanks go out to the individuals who made this race
happen, they include: Bob Stwalley, Ann Bennett, Diane
Crisp, Crawfordsville Journal Review, Crawfordsville Fire Department and
Rescue Team, Indiana DNR representatives.
The water level for this years race was excellent and flow was 521 cf/s.
There were channels of premium water to be found throughout the course.
Along with the water being in excellent condition, the weather was
nearly perfect. At race time, the temperature was 62 degrees with plenty
of sun for everyone. However, about 1/2 way through the race, the temperature
started to drop and rain came. By the end it became slightly unpleasant.
Again, that is why wimps don't paddle! The water temperature was
a cool 50 degrees.
