The Indiana Division of the United States Canoe Association would like to thank Sonja Gilman and Guy Gilman for their support of the 5th Annual St Joe River Marathon canoe and kayak races on Saturday, September 27, 2008.

This year’s race was a memorial to Patrick Sawyer, who still holds the course record for the fastest overall time of 59:55. The net proceeds from the race are being contributed to the Sawyer Family Fund.

We want to thank our many helpers who made it possible for us to have this friendly competition - Roger Crisp for timing, Chris Peterson for Patrick’s Memorial, race registration, timing and whatever else she could find to do, Marilyn Cook for race registration and timing, John and Jerry Goeller and Jim Schmidt for race course safety, Deb Kanost for photography, and the Notre Dame Rowing Club for providing motorized safety boats, as required by our DNR permit.
