SPRING MEETING

MAY 7, 2005

 

  1. President Ed Behnke was not present; Vice- President Guy Gilman opened the meeting.
  2. Secretary Jim Anderson covered the minutes from the fall meeting, there were no open issues.
  3. Treasurer Deb Kanost reported on expenses and income for the year to date. We have $1723.68 and have not yet received a rebate from the national organization. The President, Ed Behnke would be informed to apply to the national org. for our rebate.
  4. Membership Chairman Steve Peterson was not present; Deb Kanost reported we had 30 members in the division as of April. The list was read and names absent were to be asked to turn in their memberships. Guy Gilman said he would like some “WELCOME PADDLER” fliers to leave at local canoe shops and asked others to do the same in their areas. Terry Pontius said he had plenty and would get them to whoever asked for them. Matt Meersman reported they were getting people out to attend their open cruises in the South Bend and Bristol areas. Everyone was reminded to pass the word that the insurance for kids less then 18 years old, who raced in our races would paid for by the division in hopes of getting more kids interested in canoe racing.
  5. Recreational Cruise Chairman Pat Sawyer was not present, there was not report.
  6. The 2005 race schedule was opened for discussion and there were no outstanding issues.
  7. The delegate report was opened. No one present attended the winter meeting, nor was there an issue of Canoe News to review issues reported in it. Frank Tinsley asked if anyone would be interested in going to the Nationals in August to be his proxy, Matt Meersman volunteered and agreed to attend for him. Pat Oakley also wanted someone to be her proxy and Guy Gilman volunteered and agreed to attend for her.
  8. Matt Meersman asked the webmaster Kurt Begue if we should think about paying to get a registered website name. Kurt reported on the results of the many different search engine results, which were excellent, and it was agreed to look into the subject.
  9. Trophy Chairman Bob Stwalley was not present. Terry Pontius returned an old recreational class trophy to Kurt Begue. Kurt reported that he was noting results from archives that showed division winners that weren’t on the trophies from years past. As he works on compiling old results from paddles notes he would report more when archives are more complete.
