Minutes of the Fall meeting of the

Indiana Division of the USCA

Nov. 9, 2002

  1. IND. Div. President Ed Behnke opened the meeting at 12:30PM with an overview of agenda. He wanted to get elections back on schedule with the bylaws and fill vacant posts in the Division.
  2. The elected secretary, Sara McKibbin was absent and Jim Anderson agreed to fill in. Minutes from last meeting were not available and there was an open discussion of what was left on the agenda from Spring meeting.
  3. Deb Kanost gave the treasure’s report at a balance of $1,771.65. The only cost from the last report was the replacement cost of the season’s points champion’s Mixed trophy that Deb & Bill Kanost had rebuilt to match original.
  4. Bill Kanost announced the 2002 season’s points winners; Sea Kayak Steve Peterson, K-1 Earl Metzler, C-2 Aluminum Hilman Culp Jr., C-2 Women’s Pam Metts & Deb Kanost, C-2 Mixed Pat Oakley & Jim Anderson, C-2 Standard Ronnie & Mike Beach, C-2 Men’s Gene Bennett & Frank Tinsley, C-1 Dan Oren, Rookie Trophy Ronnie Beach, Roger Stark, John Puetz, Paul Kane, & Doug Dorsam.
  5. Earl Metzler awarded the Paddler of the Year Trophy to Nancy & Pat Sawyer.
  6. Old Business was opened with a discussion of how the orphaned points trophies should be awarded. It was left as to the way it was done this year by the committee of Pat Oakley, Gene Bennett, and Jan Strieb.
  7. New Business was opened. Ed Behnke requested race result be reported to the competition chairman in seconds, not just minutes. Ed opened the floor for a discussion of the way the paddler of the year trophy was awarded, no change. The floor was opened to discuss the rookie award, no change. Ed read an email from Kurt Begue on the status of the Website, ideas were to be forwarded to Kurt to consider. Spring Meeting date was set for May 2003 Tippy Race Weekend (TBA) and the Fall Meeting would be on Nov. 8, 2003.
  8. Elections for 2003 officers were held; Vice President-Steve Peterson, Secretary-Jim Anderson, Membership Chair-Steve Peterson, Delegates-Pat Oakley & Frank Tinsley, Conservation Chair-Pat Sawyer.
  9. Before the meeting was closed Pat Sawyer announced his intent on paddling the length of the St. Joseph River on a date TBA in the spring of 2003 to raise awareness on river cleanup & conservation. He is also working with MI & WI to put together a C-1 triple crown series with the Burlington, WI and Jonesville, MI races.
