Minutes of the Fall Meeting of the

Indiana Division of the USCA

November 6, 2004

 

1.        President Ed Behnke called the meeting to order at 11AM and proceeded with the election of new officers for the even years (Secretary, Vice-President, and Delegates). He wanted the new Vice-President to be someone who could try to concentrate on getting new members and not be busy with other duties such as sponsoring a race.

2.        Guy Gilman was elected to serve as our new Vice-President, Jim Anderson as Secretary, and Frank Tinsley and Patt Oakley would continue as our Delegates with Matt Meersman volunteering for proxy duties as needed.

3.        Bill Kanost our Competition chairman reported the 2004 point’s results and passed out the awards.

Mike Grube Memorial Rookie Awards; Kelly Harrington, Betsy Arnold, Bill Rothwell, Guy Gilman, Ted Beatty, Nancy Sawyer, Jack Wait, Matt Meersman.

4.        Secretary Jim Anderson read the minutes of the spring meeting.  No old business to review.

5.        The Pro Class handicap system was extended for another year.

6.        Sea Kayakers expressed interest in trying to get their class added to some of the creek races on the schedule for next year.

7.        Spring meeting date was set as May 7, 2005 after the Tippecanoe race and the Fall meeting was set for November 5, 2005.

8.        Bob Stwalley reported on developments in Crawfordsville and the Sugar Creek race, kids 4-mile race and a Parks Department program for kids.

9.        Pat Sawyer reported on his idea of starting a club in South Bend as a vehicle to reach out to schools to start a kids program and requested old boats and equipment to be donated. Pat also reported Notre Dame’s rowing club and the city parks department have hired a consultant to study ways to promote the St. Joe river recreational uses in South Bend and what facilities they might need to build and what kind of revenue stream they could expect.

10.     Kurt Begue offered his business’s building as a site for a boat repair weekend workshop in January if there was interest.

11.     Deb Kanost read our Treasury report, $1883.30. The division voted to reimburse the race sponsors the insurance fees for all kids 18 and under for the 2005 points races with the hope they would help to keep the entry fees low for kids.

12.     On the Division website, a race sponsors checklist will help new race directors with the formalities and process for their races.

13.     It was agreed to only send a mailing of the 2005 race schedule to those who didn’t have email or requested a hard copy. The entire race schedule is on the division website.

14.     President Ed Behnke closed the meeting and the race sponsors present gathered to setup the 2005 schedule.
